Educational Technologies

I selected Microlearning and Social Learning for an engaging and non-engaging emerging technology. As a professional, busy mom, wife, student, and volunteer, microlearning would be beneficial to my scholarly enhancement. Microlearning provides student with the information they need, on each subject, in a smaller compartment and to their understanding (Admin TED, 2023). Instead of pouring so much information at one time and expecting students, who have a busy schedule, to grasp the concepts and read all required material, microlearning can be seen as index cards or a kid’s meal with all required reading materials.

Social learning can benefit the extroverts, social butterflies, group projects, and team building events. Social learning utilizes online communities such as blogs and podcast, social media such as TikTok and twitter plus peer-to-peer interactions such as a group chat (Admin TED, 2023). However, social learning may not engage all persons due to the need of internet access, electronic devices and continuous social interactions. If someone resides in a low-income household or community, they may not have continuous access to the necessities to participate in social learning. As an instructor or professional, I would have to be mindful to use social learning by utilizing it during class time or work to provide access to required resources.

Using an emerging technology cannot be just for the benefit of the leader but for the subordinates as well.

  1. I do agree with the statements you made regarding microlearning. There have been courses I have taken in the past which have had so much material to go through on a weekly basis, it was impossible to either go through it all or reference some of it.
Your thoughts on social learning as a concept are spot on as well. I do think it also benefits introverts as well because it allows them to be exposed to the social side of learning through chat groups, or video conferencing while allowing them to maintain that sense of doing things by themselves for the most part.
